Academic and Research Projects

Please read the below information carefully

Academic projects are probably the most valuable opportunity you will get to experience what it means to be an engineer (for real). Its place on the academic timeline is an opportunity to transform a student into an engineer.

Please read the information below carefully so that you appreciate this opportunity presented to you.

After reading the information provided below, click the button below to view recent academic projects successfully completed with our assistance.

Recent Academic Projects

Academic Projects are supposed to serve the following purposes:

  • Give students an opportunity to develop their own designs,
  • Encourage students to learn something new out of their own interest, not because the syllabus demands them to,
  • Present an opportunity to explore newer areas and domains,
  • Acquire and apply the skills required to engineer a product or solution,
  • Provide exposure to design practices and procedures,
  • Experience working in a team, delegation and coordination,
  • Provide experience in documentation,

and many more...

Remember, the project is not just a physical piece of equipment that satisfies the academic requirements, but a change in the attitude and approach, and the experience that will carry you through a successful career in engineering.

What does it take to make the project a success?

  1. A properly documented idea of what you want to accomplish i.e., what, why, where, when, and for whom it needs to be developed.
  2. The knowledge base necessary to implement the design. i.e., principle(s) deployed in the design, functional blocks, how everything works together etc.
  3. The skills required to put it together. This includes, but not limited to - component sourcing, component identification, soldering, operating T&M instruments, CAD, design, documentation, using programmers and related software, to name a few.
  4. Infrastructure and technical resources: component sources, soldering tool kit, tester, multimeter, oscilloscope, power supply, signal generators, decade boxes, bread board, CAD and programming software packages, qualified and experienced technical guidance,
  5. The right attitude towards engineering, discipline, diligence and perseverance to do the smaller jobs and the bigger ones with the same passion.

How do you go about it?

The below list of activities are essential for your project to be a success and serve the purposes mentioned above:

  1. Feasibility Report:  feasibility study has to be done and a proper document put together.  This report should at the least, include the following information: (i) Technical description: features of the proposed product or solution; (ii) Sketch: functional diagram, proper HMI (Human-Machine Interface) etc. (iii) Technical details of the electronic and mechanical components (yes, mechanical components also) required, T&M instruments, skills, technical resources required to develop the product or solution, and infrastructure required to be able to test and use it; (iv) Test and validation criteria; and (v) Activity Plan: list of activities, team member responsibilities and time lines.
  2. Background Research: This should be focused on verifying the individual principles that the project is based on.
  3. Component Sourcing: what, where, cost, lead times, testing etc.
  4. Design Analysis: Analysing the proposed design, to foresee any issues that might arise while developing. This really requires some third party assistance. A fresh set of qualified eyes will always look at design from a different perspective and provide valuable inputs.
  5. Development (build phase): assembling, testing, rework etc.
  6. Review: Verifying each block functions properly, and the whole system works together as expected, and
  7. Documentation: This is critical for a successful project development. Everything should be documented -  ideas, sketches, brainstorming discussions and outcomes, measurements, design blueprints (drafts, iterations and final), design changes and reasons, datasheets, reference information gathered from other sources etc.

Following this disciplined, diligent and systematic methodology goes a long way in transforming you from a student to an engineer.

Overwhelmed? Do not worry, we are here to assist you.

Academic Projects is one of KSDI's key activities. We can provide all the technical and infrastructure support you will need to complete your project successfully.

Simply fill the information requested below and click Need Assistance.

Looking for a project idea? We can work with you on that too...

We need a lot of new products to be developed and actual industrial problems that need solutions.

This would also be a good opportunity to get greater exposure to real-time product and solution design and development.
